Carmelo Fontana is a technology attorney with over 12 years of experience in the fields of intellectual property, data protection and technology transactions. In January 2011, he joined Google where, as Senior Regional Counsel, he currently handles the Italian regulatory and commercial practice. Carmelo also is a lecturer at Bocconi University and SDA School of Management where he teaches on the topics of privacy, intellectual property, consumer protection, technology transactions, negotiation and innovation policy. Before joining Google, Carmelo was a startup entrepreneur in Silicon Valley (2009-2011), a research associate at Stanford Law School (2008-2010), a lawyer at the European Commission Legal Services (2007) and an attorney for Cleary Gottlieb (2004-2007). Carmelo is qualified to practice law in California and in Italy and is a US Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US). Carmelo holds a LL.M. degree from Stanford Law School, a J.D. summa cum laude from Luiss Guido Carli and is a Fulbright and Rotary scholar.
